3. Maria Rambeau’s Impact on SWORD

As mentioned earlier, “We Interrupt This Program” gave us a glimpse into the real world after spending three episodes in Westview. This dive into reality gave the audience some insight on the organisation SWORD, including the founder of prestigious organisation.

While many believed that Nick Fury was going to be responsible for creating the agency due to the post credits scene in Spider-Man: Far From Home, it turns out that the agency’s founder was actually none other than Maria Rambeau.

For those who do not know, Maria Rambeau was Carol Danvers’ best friend that appeared in Captain Marvel. She is also the mother of Monica Rambeau, who the fourth episode of WandaVision has a profound focus on.

Learning of Maria’s death early in the episode made Monica’s return so much more heartbreaking and seeing her plaque displayed in SWORD headquarters (and Monica having the same position as Maria when we meet her in Captain Marvel) highlighted how much of a trailblazer Maria Rambeau truly was.

It is a good tribute for the character who has had a big effect on Monica and Carol’s lives, and it will be interesting to see Monica and Carol reunite when Captain Marvel 2 hits theatres.
