Disney Investor Day: Captain Marvel 2 will hit theatres in Fall 2022 and feature familiar MCU stars

Captain Marvel 2 now has an official release date, with additional cast members announced to be joining Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers.

Yes, it’s official! Captain Marvel 2 is definitely on its way, but we still have to wait. While news about the sequel to the hit 2019 film was announced earlier this year, at Disney Investor Day 2020, Kevin Feige revealed that the Marvel Cinematic Universe film was not only in development but has an official release date and new cast members.

Captain Marvel 2 – Who’s joining the cast?

Brie Larson will be returning in the title role as Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel. Joining her will be Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel, played by newcomer Iman Vellani and adult Monica Rambeau, played by Teyonah Parris. Captain Marvel 2 is scheduled to release in theatres on November 11, 2022.

Prior to making their big-screen debuts, both Vellani and Parris will be appearing in Marvel’s Disney Plus originals. Vellani will be headlining Ms. Marvel, slated to release in late 2021, and Parris will feature in WandaVision, streaming from January 15, 2021.

In the comics, Kamala Khan’s idol is Captain Marvel. In the first look of Ms. Marvel, we saw a glimpse of a Captain Marvel poster on Kamala’s bedroom wall. It’s no wonder then, that she’ll be co-starring in Captain Marvel 2. Larson herself had advocated for Kamala’s inclusion in the sequel, and her wishes seem to have come true. How will Kamala react to meeting her hero?

With an adult Monica as part of the cast, we can assume the second installment will be set in the present, or post-Avengers: Endgame. Taking on the reins behind-the-scenes is Nia DaCosta—this is an exciting move by Marvel to give the directing duties to a Black woman.

Captain Marvel 2 is part of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is its most diverse slate yet. There are no updates on the possible story for the sequel, but one can assume it will be packed with action and even more characters.

Captain Marvel 2 will release in theatres on November 11, 2022.
