Filming has begun for Thor: Love and Thunder in Sydney, and set photos have revealed a very unique look for the God of Thunder.

Taika Watiti’s Thor: Love and Thunder has begun filming in Sydney, and new set photos from the Marvel Cinematic Universe film have fans excited. While the photos have revealed images of the Guardians of the Galaxy taking part in the fun of the upcoming movie, it is these new set photos featuring a scene between Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Star-Lord (Peter Quill) that has fans excited.

While the images do not reveal much about the conversation taking place, the characters are both sporting new costumes.

Quill looks like he has acquired a new coat, while Hemsworth’s Thor has changed drastically from his appearance in Avengers: Endgame.

What does Thor look like in Love and Thunder?

The character is no longer the weight that he was during his last appearance and he also has a different hairstyle. However, the major difference is the character’s costume. He appears to be sporting a red sleeveless jacket, jeans and a white shirt – a far cry from his godly outfit from the final act of Avengers: Endgame.

More from Marvel Cinematic Universe

The new look looks awfully similar to the comic book character Eric Masterson, who went by the superhero name Thunderstrike. The character’s origin is closely tied to Thor Odinson, as Odin merges the two characters into one body after Thor begs Odin to save Eric’s life.

Eventually, Masterson and Thor separate, with Masterson getting his own weapon (a mace) from Odin, which was named Thunderstrike. Thus, with a stroke of originality, Masterson decided to name himself Thunderstrike.

While it is unclear whether the God of Thunder’s new appearance here is an indicator of Eric Masterson being a part of the plot, it is more likely a homage to the classic comic book appearance as the film already has a variety of characters and plot threads to juggle.

Thor: Love and Thunder is currently scheduled to be released on February 11, 2022, featuring a cast that includes Chris Hemsworth back in the titular role, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster/Mighty Thor and Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher.
