3. Wanda Versus SWORD
Wanda can be a terrifying presence, which this scene establishes very well. After SWORD sends in a drone to monitor the Scarlet Witch, Monica is unaware that the Acting SWORD Director Tyler Hayward had weaponised the drone and attempted to kill Wanda with the weapon.
This led to Wanda making her first appearance outside the “Hex” (term coined by Dr Darcy Lewis), where she confronts SWORD for attacking her. The scene is truly terrifying, as all guns are pointed on Wanda. She is furious that the agency will not leave her alone, and gets agitated to see Monica still at Westview.
She offers SWORD one warning: Leave her alone and she’ll leave them alone. Her Sokovian accent returns in an extreme moment of frustration for her, as this obviously is not an option for SWORD due to Wanda holding over 1,000 people hostage.
This results in Wanda giving SWORD another taste of her power, as she takes control of multiple agents and makes them point their guns at Hayward, who is absolutely terrified (which is fair, because I was absolutely terrified watching this scene).
Hayward sees Wanda as a threat, due to the Scarlet Witch breaking into the SWORD facility and stealing Vision’s corpse and the immense power she holds, so this is likely not going to be the last time Wanda exits the Hex to confront SWORD.
Next time Wanda may not be so merciful, which leads to the question of whether SWORD have the ability to stop her.
