5. New era, new looks

Let’s start with the most obvious new thing to look for in the Riverdale season 5 premiere, shall we? We are, of course, talking about the apperance of the major characters. Jughead’s beanie? That’s gone. Archie’s blue and gold Letterman jacket? No more. What about Betty’s signature ponytail or Veronica Lodge’s pearls? Nope and nope.

Nothing says the times have changed quite like the people and the Riverdale creative team clearly felt the same way as all of the characters now sport new looks – all more mature than the ones we’ve come to recognize from them over the past few years.

What makes it extra special though is that all of the new looks still contain the essence of the character wearing them (Betty still wears quirky sweaters/jumpers while Veronica clearly still owns high street fashion). They still feel inherently Riverdale too, matching the aesthetic perfectly while just feeling like natural evolutions of each respective character. It also goes a long way in making the actors – the very same actors who just played teenagers in the previous episode – look that much more mature and it sets the characters up for exciting new reinventions.
