There has been a sense of mystery surrounding WandaVision since the show began, but Episode 6 just teased its primary villain.

Few shows have left viewers asking questions quite like WandaVision has. The Marvel Cinematic Universe series that streams on Disney Plus has been a nail-biting mystery since it began (by being absolutely nothing like a nail-biting mystery).

Its format has left fans both on the edges of their seats and scratching their heads for weeks now and one of the questions it has been forcing us to ask is in regards to its primary villain.

Over the last couple of weeks, we have wondered if Wanda was the one responsible for the Westview anomaly and while that’s not entirely untrue, she may not be the one truly in control after all. Of course, many of us then believed S.W.O.R.D. agent Tyler Hayward was the one at fault because he has exhibited smarmy and destructive qualities. Again, he is definitely a villain of the piece but it seems he may not be the main threat either.

Who is the villain in WandaVision?

Episode 6 of WandaVision featured the proper debut of Evan Peters’ Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver. The X-Men star arrived in last week’s adventure, throwing the whole show into disarray and his recurring appearances have now left fans wondering if he is the villain. However, in Episode 6, he seemed to thrive on the disarray of the situation, suggesting that he isn’t Wanda’s brother after all – and is, in fact, just telling her what she needs to hear.

The latest episode really alluded to the villain, however, when Pietro told Wanda and Vision’s children, Tommy and Billy (or Speed and Wiccan) to “unleash hell demon spawn”.

This is a huge reference to the comics as Billy and Tommy are actually part of Mephisto’s soul. For anyone unaware, Mephisto is Marvel’s answer to the devil and he is the character that many have predicted to be behind the madness of the show. Thus, the “demon spawn” line would suggest that the MCU versions of Tommy and Billy are indeed fragments of his soul too. And, by extension, that would suggest that he is about to make his MCU debut.

Whether or not this Pietro is Mephisto remains to be seen, but it does sound like Marvel’s Lord of Hell is on his way to the MCU.

WandaVision adds a new episode on Disney+ every Friday from midnight.
