WandaVision’s latest episode changed the game for the Marvel Cinematic Universe but not as much as the commercial did, alluding to what we can expect in Spider-Man 3 and beyond.

WandaVision is the Marvel shocker that just keeps on shocking. The Disney Plus series has thrived off baffling, bewildering and bewitching its audience since it began and the latest episode is proof of that.

With Wanda Maximoff beginning to piece together the puzzle of Westview, the show is beginning to piece together the puzzle of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s fourth phase. And it is doing that through a series of teases, Easter Eggs and references.

One of the ways that Marvel Studios often teases audiences is through WandaVision‘s commercial breaks, as they often allude to what has come before or what is set to come in the future. The latest, however, was the most game-changing of them all.

What does the Nexus commercial really mean in WandaVision and how does it connect to Spider-Man 3?

The commercial in “Breaking the Fourth Wall” was for a fictional antidepressant called Nexus capable of anchoring you back to your reality or “the reality of your choice”. No doubt a vivid recreation of modern American commercials, it was also a reference to what’s to come in the MCU’s future.

In Marvel Comics, Nexus beings are those rare entities which act as keystones of the multiverse and are crucial to its overall stability. One of them usually exists on each parallel dimension and, in Marvel’s mainstream Earth-616 continuity, the Scarlet Witch herself, Wanda Maximoff, is indeed that Nexus being.

Of course, the idea of the multiverse will undoubtedly excite fans because it is expected to be adapted in the next chapter of the MCU. Though Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will undoubtedly explore that a great deal, fans are even more excited for the upcoming Spider-Man 3 as the Tom Holland-led sequel will feature stars from previous Spider-Man iterations, suggesting that the multiverse will play into that movie’s plot.

With that in mind, Wanda could end up being the reason that the likes of Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus and Jamie Foxx’s Electro – and perhaps why Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s versions of Peter Parker (if they do appear) – surface in the MCU film.

The fact that she was able to create the world of Westview in the MCU (we think) indicates how powerful she truly is. But this could only be the beginning for the MCU’s apparent Nexus Being – and that figures considering she is set to play a major role in the Doctor Strange sequel.

WandaVision streams a new episode on Disney+ every Friday. Spider-Man 3 is currently scheduled for release on December 17, 2021.
