Captain Marvel 2 has finally found its villain

British actress Zawe Ashton has landed the role of the villain in Captain Marvel 2 opposite Brie Larson.

As per Deadline, Zawe Ashton has been tapped to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe to star opposite Brie Larson as the villain in Captain Marvel 2. Disney and Marvel have kept the details under wraps but Megan McDonnell (story editor for Marvel’s WandaVision) is penning the screenplay and Nia DaCosta is directing the upcoming sequel to the original 2019 film.

With Captain Marvel 2 currently in pre-production, there will no doubt be many details kept under wraps ahead of principal photography. All we do know is that it is expected to be set during the present-day – unlike the last film which was set in the not-too-distant past in the ’90s.

Who is Zawe Ashton playing in Captain Marvel 2?

No details have been given as to which character Zawe Ashton will be playing in Captain Marvel 2 but she is reportedly going to be the film’s primary antagonist. That said, some popular choices would be Deathbird of the Shi’ar Empire or Moonstone.

Ashton is best known for her roles in comedy-drama shows Fresh Meat and Not Safe for Work and on the big screen in Dreams of Life and Netflix’s Velvet Buzzsaw opposite Jake Gyllenhaal. Her other TV credits include Case Histories, Doctor Who and Wanderlust.

Captain Marvel 2 stars Brie Larson, Teyonah Paris, Iman Vellani and Zawe Ashton. The sequel featuring the titular Human-Kree hybrid superhero has Nia DaCosta directing from a screenplay by Megan McDonnell. Kevin Feige and Mary Livanos are producing for Marvel Studios under Walt Disney Studios. The Captain will return to our screens in theaters on Nov. 11, 2022.
