WandaVision has spent its run taking cues from some of TV’s most beloved shows. Which sitcom was the inspiration behind Episode 8?

WandaVision never ceases to amaze. The Marvel Cinematic Universe series has been making headlines and garnering praise since its mid-January launch on Disney Plus, with many pointing out how innovative of a TV show it has been.

One of the many reasons for its innovation has been the way that it mimics a host of classic sitcoms and TV shows related to whichever era each episode appears to be set during. The very first installment took its cues from the 1950s while its follow-up was inspired by the 1960s. Next came the ’70s – which remained in place across episodes 3 and 4 – before it shifted gear to the ’80s. After that came a Halloween special ’90s and ’00-themed offering that was based on Malcolm In The Middle while the most recent episode was inspired by post-2010 sitcoms like Modern Family and The Office.

Episode 8 has now arrived on Disney+ but which TV show inspired it?

What sitcom is WandaVision Episode 8 based on?

WandaVision Episode 8 wasn’t directly inspired by any TV sitcom. As it gave us more of an insight into the events that led Wanda to create Westview, the show was inspired by the MCU movies instead.

However, there were once again references to the TV shows it already took inspiration from. From the boxsets of shows like Bewitched and The Dick Van Dyke Show to the fact that the Maximoff family actually watched an episode of the latter, it’s easy to see where the inspirations for Wanda’s Westview came from.

This all came to life before our eyes when the flashbacks revealed that Wanda based the first episode of WandaVision on The Dick Van Dyke Show, using it as a basis to construct her perfect fantasy with her beloved Vision… just like the in TV shows.

Life can’t be like the movies, but for Wanda, it can be like TV.

WandaVision‘s finale streams next Friday, March 5, at 12:00 a.m. PT and 3:00 a.m. ET on Disney+.
