Keanu Reeves has reportedly just turned down this huge Marvel role
Keanu Reeves has reportedly turned down the role of Kraven the Hunter in the Spider-Man spin-off film.
Industry insider Skyler Shuler (H/T: CBR) has revealed that action star Keanu Reeves has turned down the role of Kraven the Hunter in Sony Pictures’ Universe of Marvel Characters.
The John Wick star had reportedly been approached by Sony for the role of one of Spider-Man’s most sinister and prodigious foes. Unfortunately, it seems that it wasn’t meant to be for Reeves and Kraven. There have been no details revealed yet as to why Reeves declined.
Keanu Reeves won’t be a part of Sony’s Marvel Universe in Kraven The Hunter
2018’s divisive but commercially successful Venom kicked off what retroactively became known as Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters. That universe’s existence was then solidified with the confirmation of the sequel (that will be helmed by Andy Serkis), Venom: Let There Be Carnage and its spin-off, Morbius. The latter of those two movies has seen its target release date pushed back twice due to the global pandemic.

Kraven the Hunter is expected to expand that Sony/Marvel universe further. The standalone film which centers on the maniacal Russian-born big game hunter, Sergei Kravinoff, was in development before the original Venom movie’s release. Richard Wenk – known for penning The Mechanic and the Antoine Fuqua-helmed The Equalizer films – was tapped to write the screenplay for Kraven.
Last year, it was revealed script doctors Art Marcum and Matt Holloway had provided rewrites for Wenk’s script and J.C. Chandor entered negotiations to direct the film. Wenk intended to adapt the storyline Kraven’s Last Hunt. Since then, not many major developments have been made. Reeves’ apparent decline of the role suggests that things won’t be changing for Kraven for the forseeable.
