No matter what Warner Bros and JJ Abrams have in store for us with their upcoming Superman reboot movie, Henry Cavill must be part of it.

You may have heard that we’re getting another Superman movie. Oh, but it’s not Man of Steel 2, we’re getting an entirely different Kryptonian hero. According to reports, Warner Bros. and JJ Abrams will proudly bring a Black Superman to the big screen – a version of the hero we’ve never before seen in live-action.

THR first reported the news with Abrams tapping novelist Ta-Nehisi Coates to write the script. So much is still unknown about the project and we have no idea which version of the character we’ll get. There are two possibilities, Calvin Ellis or Val-Zod. We have no clue which hero they’ll decide to bring to life. That said, one thing must happen: Henry Cavill should be part of it.

Henry Cavill should appear in the Superman reboot

When THR first broke the news of a Superman reboot, it received a divided response. Many were thrilled at the prospect of seeing a Black Superman represented on the big screen. However, there were also those who were understandably up-in-arms about not having a Man of Steel sequel. After all, it doesn’t seem right to forget about the Superman that already exists in the DCEU when we still have unfinished business with the Man of Steel franchise. Zack Snyder seemingly responded to the announcement by dubbing Cavill “our Superman”.

However, writing Cavill into the reboot movie in a limited or supporting capacity would be a way to satisfy those longing for another appearance from the Superman we’ve known in the DCEU while also perhaps allowing him to pass the torch to the new Superman.

We might still see Cavill to appear in one way or another in the future. In May of 2020, Deadline first reported that Warner Bros and the Man of Steel star were in talks for the actor to return in multiple DC films, so if this pans out, you might see him becoming like the Nick Fury of the DCEU – overseeing things without being at the center of them.

How Henry Cavill could appear in the Superman reboot

That aforementioned report indicated that we haven’t seen the last of Cavill’s Superman. Should Abrams decide to make his Superman film about Kalel aka Calvin Ellis we can – and should – see Cavill dawn the tights and cape one more time. In the pages of DC Comics, Clark, a scientist from another Earth seeks refuge from the murderous Superdoom. Ellis, of course, is the President and Superman of his Earth who defeats Superdoom and saves Lois, Clark, and Jimmy.

More from DCEU

With that in mind, Cavill could cameo as Earth-23’s leading scientist Clark Kent. Imagine Ellis interviewing for a magazine taking the reporter on tour and guess who’s standing over a Bunsen burner? Clark Kent. The DCEU is expected to incorporate the multiverse following The Flash so that would be an entirely possible way to include Cavill in the new Superman movie without having his tenured crimefighter overshadow the star of the piece.

Should Abrams’ movie opt for a more tragic tale, it could focus on Val-Zod. This member of the House of Zod had a deceased cousin named Kal-El. Perhaps Cavill could show up in a nightmarish flashback Val-Zod is having about his slain family. It would mark the second time we saw the death of Kal-El, so see what I did there?

No matter which hero Abrams opts to focus on, he should have a place for Henry Cavill among either the supporting cast or the cameos.
