Supergirl season 6 will bring back a beloved character but not exactly in the way you would expect them to return.

It’s only a matter of weeks until Supergirl returns to The CW for its sixth season. The Arrowverse show has been off the air since May last year when its impromptu season 5 finale ended the season on a strong note. However, it will make something of a sudden return on March 31.

Though originally not expected to begin airing until summer 2021Supergirl will return at the end of the month, replacing Superman and Lois as the spin-off needs a break for a number of weeks.

With season 6 being the show’s final season, fans are curious to see how it will honor Supergirl and whether or not any familiar faces from its past might return. And it turns out that one beloved character will be making a comeback… just not in the way that you might expect (yet at least).

Which beloved character is returning in Supergirl season 6?

Entertainment Weekly has revealed that Eliza Helm will be portraying a younger version of Cat Grant in two flashback episodes of Supergirl‘s final season.

Episodes 5 and 6 of season 6 will showcase the younger days of Cat Grant’s career as, “CJ Grant”, the future media-mogul ventures to Kara’s hometown, Midvale, in the hopes that she can obtain a huge story that will allow her to step out of Lois Lane’s shadow.

Will Calista Flockhart return as Cat Grant in Supergirl season 6?

Cat Grant is, of course, one of Supergirl‘s most iconic characters. Portrayed by Calista Flockhart, she was a regular on the show’s first season and was one of its most pivotal personalities. Unfortunately, the show’s move from CBS to The CW in the second season resulted in a production move from Los Angeles to Vancouver, meaning that Flockhart could not remain on as a series regular.

Though she returned for four episodes in the second season (and one in the third) in order to tie up the character’s storyline – as Cat became the White House’s Press Secretary – the show simply has not been the same without her.

It’s unknown if Calista Flockhart will return for the final season, but it goes without saying that fans would love to see the queen that is Cat Grant strut into CatCo from her private elevator just one more time.

Supergirl season 6 premieres on The CW on Tuesday, March 31 at 9:00 p.m. ET. immediately after The Flash.
