The upcoming Black Adam film has now rounded out its version of the Justice Society as if it was Fate. Doctor Fate.

In an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, Pierce Brosnan has been cast as Kent Nelson, aka Doctor Fate, in the Dwayne Johnson-headlined DCEU film Black Adam – that is set to begin production in April. Brosnan’s casting seems to bring an end to the announced characters that will be featured on the Justice Society within Black Adam.

As for who Brosnan will be joining, he will star alongside Aldis Hodge, who plays Hawkman, Noah Centineo, who plays Atom Smasher, and Quintessa Swindell, who plays Cyclone.

Brosnan will be the second former James Bond actor to feature in a DC Comics property over the course of the past couple of years as the James Bond star before him, Timothy Dalton, stars as Dr. Niles Calder on Doom Patrol. While Brosnan is most famous for his portrayal of Bond, especially in GoldenEye, Brosnan has also starred in the Mamma Mia! franchise, as well the remake of The Thomas Crown Affair and was nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in The Matador.

Who is Pierce Brosnan playing in Black Adam?

As for who Doctor Fate is, well, to put it simply, it is a title passed down to various people to those who wear the Helmet of Fate which carries the consciousness of a Lord of Order named Nabu.

More from DCEU

Kent Nelson was the first character to take the name when he first appeared in More Fun Comics #55, written by Gardner Fox and drawn by Howard Sherman. However, it wasn’t until More Fun Comics #67 where his background was revealed. Over the decades since the creation of the character, the mantle of Doctor Fate has been used by various people with the most recent being a young man named Khalid Nassour, who is Kent’s grandnephew.

Black Adam is set to begin shooting in just a few weeks, so it’s to be expected that this will be the last big casting news for the film as it should be assumed that some characters featured are being kept under wraps.
