The Suicide Squad director has confirmed the release date for the film’s official trailer

Fans have been hyped for The Suicide Squad since it was announced and Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn was attached to the project.

The DCEU film has been confirmed to release in August in theaters and on HBO Max. Even with the release date getting closer, fans have yet to see a full official trailer from the studio, though they were treated to some footage placed in a HBO Max trailer earlier in the year.

However, that is about change and fans now have a date for the first official trailer thanks to James Gunn.

When is The Suicide Squad trailer released?

Director James Gunn took to Twitter on Thursday to announce that the trailer would be released on Friday 26th March, ensuring that, for the next 24 hours, fans will be filled with anticipation.

According to Gunn’s tweet, fans are about to be treated to the red band trailer of The Suicide Squad. While it is unclear about what will occur in the film, however, a synopsis was revealed earlier in the year to give fans some idea on what to expect:

"“Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese.”"

The film is slated to release on August 6, 2021 and stars many of the fan favorite characters from the first film, including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang.

Gunn’s addition to the DCEU will also star Idris Elba as Bloodsport, John Cena as Peacemaker (who will also star in his own HBO Max series), Peter Capaldi as The Thinker and Taika Watiti and Sylvester Stallone in undisclosed roles.

The Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 6, 2021.
