Arrow’s Katie Cassidy and Katherine McNamara are reuniting for spy thriller Agent Game.

Arrow changed the game for superhero TV, kickstarting its own shared universe of superhero programming as it led the charge for a new era of TV heroes before it bowed out with its eighth and final season. An era was ended but the Arrowverse lives on and it appears that two of its stars are set to reunite in a different environment.

As revealed by Deadline, Katie Cassidy will be joining the cast of spy thriller Agent Game. The film stars Mel Gibson, Dermot Mulroney, Rhys Coiro, Annie Ilonzeh and Katherine McNamara.

A Green Arrow and the Canaries reunion in Agent Game

Ironically, Katie Cassidy and Katherine McNamara should both be working together right now but on a completely different project. Both Arrow alums were due to star in spin-off Green Arrow and the Canaries but The CW unfortunately decided not to go ahead with the show in spite of its high viewership and incredibly positive response.

Cassidy was Arrow‘s leading lady, appearing as both the original Laurel Lance/Black Canary and the Earth-2 version Black Siren (who would have been one of the three main characters in the planned spin-off). McNamara portrayed Mia Smoak-Queen – the daughter of the original Green Arrow Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak. Had the spin-off gone ahead, it would have seen Mia and the Canaries (Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy) team up to become the heroes of Star City in 2040.

While fans were gutted that the network bafflingly passed on the project, they can take some joy and amusement out of the fact that the two badass superheroes will be working on the same film so soon after doing so on The CW show.

Ironically, this isn’t the only Arrow reunion on Agent Game. Annie Ilonzeh played recurring character Joanna De La Vega during the show’s first season – a character who was, at the time, a close friend and colleague of the original Laurel Lance at CNRI. Wouldn’t it be nice to see her and Katie Cassidy reunite on-screen too?!
