Supergirl’s Calista Flockhart could be about to return to her most famous role

Calista Flockhart could be back on our screens very soon as an Ally McBeal revival series is in early development.

Stop the press, sway with your dancing babies and call CatCo Magazine because Ally McBeal might be about to return our screens.

According to Deadline, an Ally McBeal revival series is being explored at 20th Television and Calista Flockhart has been approached about the possibility of returning to her most famous role. Creator David E. Kelly would be involved but perhaps not as showrunner.

Ally McBeal aired on screens between 1997 and 2002, running for five seasons. It became a TV phenomenon and is widely regarded as one of the greatest TV shows of the ’90s, along with the likes of Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Friends. It didn’t quite enjoy the afterlife through reruns and streaming that those shows did, but a revival series would be a great way to introduce it to modern audiences.

Flockhart became a household name after Ally McBeal‘s success. She later moved onto a series regular role in Brothers and Sisters before appearing as the incomparable Cat Grant on Supergirl in 2015. Though the show’s production move from LA to Vancouver after the first season resulted in her having to leave as a series regular, she remained on in a recurring capacity until its third season.

Will Calista Flockhart return to Supergirl season 6 as well as Ally McBeal?

With reports suggesting that Calista Flockhart could return to Ally McBeal, we have to wonder if she’d return to Supergirl for its final season. Cat Grant was a huge part of the show and it’s clear that the writers are intent on honoring everything that made the show the success that it is – so it would really undercut that attempt if they don’t bring Cat Grant back.

Of course, with travel restrictions and the current situation, it’s a lot more challenging for television shows to bring in guest actors than it would have been in previous years, so it’s understandable that they might not be able to make it work. Nonetheless, some kind of pre-recorded apperance or video call with Kara would be a welcome way of bringing her back to the show one more time.

It would definitely be a treat to see Flockhart reprise her role on Supergirl, just as it’s going to be a treat to see her reprise her role as Ally in the revival of the classic ’90s TV series (if it goes ahead, that is).
