Will we see a second season of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier?

With only six episodes in total and raking in a whopping 1.7 million views on its opening weekend, Disney Plus‘ most-watched show has us begging to ask the question: Will there be a season 2 of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier?

Each episode of this limited series is roughly 45 minutes long, followed by seven minutes of end credits. So when you think about it, we’re looking at a 4.5 hour-long Marvel movie, but broken up into six parts. And after that cliffhanger they left us on in episode 4, some fans (myself included) might start to wonder how on Earth are they going to wrap up this show and if we will see The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2.

Is The Falcon and the Winter Soldier season 2 happening?

Sebastian Stan, who plays the beloved Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier gushed about the honor he has been given of bringing Bucky Barnes to life throughout the MCU for the past decade. When prompted about a second season in an interview with Collider, he revealed that he, sadly, knows just as much as we do.

"“No, we have not, and I’ll tell you that honestly, we have not. As per usual, I don’t quite know what the next step is… I got on the phone with him [Kevin Feige] just to catch up, and I was saying to him, ‘Dude, you could f*****g tell me to go swim under[water], I’ll do anything.’ It doesn’t matter. Or if this is it, my heart is just as big.”"

What’s next for Sam and Bucky in the MCU Phase Four after The Falcon and the Winter Soldier?

If The Falcon and the Winter Soldier does end on the sixth episode, and doesn’t return for sophomore season, it makes me wonder how it will connect to the rest of Phase 4.

More from Disney Plus

For instance, WandaVision paved the way for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which could patch up any plot-holes or questions that the show left for us, because of the follow-up film. However, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier doesn’t look to have any film to follow up in Phase 4 other than a future Avengers 5 movie.

The series gives an overall standalone Captain America: The Winter Soldier vibe, and seemingly doesn’t play into the possible Multiverse plot element that the characters of WandaVision, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will explore moving forward. So what’s next for Sam and Bucky in the MCU?

You can catch The Falcon and The Winter Soldier on Fridays at 12am PST/3am EST on Disney+.
