Bucky Barnes has been a staple of the MCU since Phase One, but will he be returning after The Falcon and the Winter Soldier?
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was a success on all fronts. For starters, it brought us back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe that we have known and loved for over a decade now (after WandaVision delivered something a little bit different but every bit as brilliant), allowing us to see how the rest of the world was coping after the infamous Blip.
It also took the MCU in a brand new direction, with Phase Four highlighting how the impact of Avengers: Endgame will continue to be felt for years to come but that the MCU is evolving because of that (among other reasons).
It also allowed us to catch up with MCU stalwarts Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes and get to know them in ways that we never did before as they struggled with the pressures of the past and the future, all while trying to honor their beloved Steve Rogers and be better heroes in the process.
While the season finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier provided both characters with some closure, fans can’t help but wonder what’s next for both of them. In this case, let’s take a look at what awaits Bucky Barnes.
Will Bucky Barnes become the White Wolf in the MCU?
It’s currently unknown where Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes will pop up in the MCU next. As of right now, there is no immediate confirmation as to whether or not Stan will return, but given how popular his character is, it’s unlikely that we’ve seen the last of him.
One of the most likely the possibilities is a potential second season of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier – which Marvel really doesn’t seem to be ruling out. But then again, the constant references to the White Wolf suggest that Bucky may show up in one or two other properties.
It’s well-documented that Bucky found peace in Wakanda as it was there he was finally able to overcome his Winter Soldier persona – with the much-needed help of Ayo. And given how much he respects the place, fans are starting to think he could appear as the White Wolf in either Black Panther 2 or the upcoming Wakanda series on Disney Plus.
Needless to say, the MCU could always use a little more Bucky Barnes – so let’s hope The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is not the last we see of him.
All episodes of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier are now available to stream on Disney+.
