Best DC movies and shows on HBO Max: Batman Beyond
Batman Beyond is an exceptional animated series that should absolutely one day be turned into a live-action feature film. But it should by no means be attempted by the DCEU until they can at least get to a Justice League movie with more hits than flops.
The well-crafted follow-up to Batman: The Animated Series had one incredibly impressive act to follow, and it did an amazing job being revered as one of the Top 100 Animated TV Series by IGN. The only series to portray the caped crusader as a teenager sees a Bruce Wayne too old for the cowl training newcomer Terry McGinnis to take over the mantel as Dark Knight in A Blade Runner 2049-esque future with an Iron-Man-like Batsuit to take on a new array of exceptional evildoers.
The animation style was similar to Batman: The Animated Series and traded a Gotham 1922-1992 hybrid for a very cyberpunk aesthetic that was pretty close on a lot of things when it came to what was coming in the future. Unfortunately, “Sway” never became of thing with the kids, but there still is time.
Overall, Batman Beyond offers up some magnificent narratives fans will absolutely love, and with 52 episodes and a direct-to-video feature film, there are plenty of reasons to put it at the top of the watch list.
