The Flash season 7 returned to screens with an episode that left fans in total shock. But what does the ending of the latest episode mean?

Central City isn’t a particularly safe place to live in. It’s nice looking and The Flash makes every adventure full of heroics and color. That doesn’t change the fact that the city is full of dangerous entities with super powers capable of instilling nightmares.

We’ve seen Barry Allen and Team Flash take on some terrible threats over the years that the Arrowverse has been in existence and he’s also suffered some treacherous betrayals. But perhaps none stung quite as much as the one he suffered in this week’s episode.

What does the ending of The Flash season 7, episode 8 really mean?

The Flash season 7, episode 8, “The People v. Killer Frost“, saw Barry team up with the Speed Force iteration of Nora Allen in the hopes of tracking down Fuerza. After doing so, they met the woman behind the monster, Alexa Rivera, and convinced her to get tested so that they could figure out if she really was Fuerza.

After some initial concern, Alexa agreed to get tested at S.T.A.R. Labs and, after the theory was confirmed, Barry began to think about what their next step was. However, in a shock twist, the Speed Force betrayed Team Flash when she used her own speed and Barry’s to kill Alexa.

While the whole story has yet to be told, it appears that the Speed Force’s decision was made out of fear because she was afraid that the Strength, Sage and Still Forces would attack her first. Though that may be understandable considering that Nora Speed Force was attacked by them before, it has created a rift that Team Flash may struggle to recover from. And as the Speed Force was wearing the face of his mother, Nora, it’s a betrayal that the Scarlet Speedster will never forget.
