2. Storm leaves the Marauders
Comic book: Marauders No. 20
In Marauders No. 17 we saw that Storm was having doubts about where she is in life, her purpose, and what’s going to happen next. That same month, in X-Men No. 17, the Shi’Ar Queen Xandra Neramani told Storm that if she ever needed anything from her then ask. Both of those led this writer to believe that she would be leaving the Marauders. That was then confirmed during Marauders 20 as Storm told her team that she’s leaving after the Hellfire Gala.
Why is this important?
Storm and Wolverine are alike in a lot of ways. Among the similarities is not being tied down too long. Storm wants to be free. She leaves the X-Men, has her own adventures and comes back. This is happening again here. The difference, however, is her position on Krakoa. Her departure leaves another empty space on the Quiet Council, with more people who don’t have the mutants’ best interests in mind waiting to take over. Mystique is actually willing to burn Krakoa down if Destiny isn’t resurrected.
For readers, we could be getting more interesting and exciting Storm adventures, especially if she’s going to space. With everything going on with Doctor Doom, the Forgotten Flame, and S.W.O.R.D., Storm could be the thing that tips the scales in the heroes’ favor.
Whatever happens next with Storm will be very interesting.
