Issa Rae will play Spider-Woman Jessica Drew in the upcoming sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Issa Rae is one of the most popular stars in film and TV today. Her amazing smile, friendly personality, and happy demeanor made fans gravitate to her. When Insecure debuted on HBO, she became a fully-fledged star and household name. Not only is she incredible on the show, she’s a creator and producer as well. It’s hard enough wearing one hat but she puts on three and does it with ease.

Her talents will now once again be showcased as she has reportedly been cast as Jessica Drew in the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Issa Rae to bring Jessica Drew to Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse 2

Taking to her Instagram story, Issa Rae revealed that being cast as Spider-Woman is, “a dream come true.” This is one of the best reasons for her playing this role. The star already puts her heart and soul into her roles, so knowing that she has passion for Spidey will make it that much better.

She’s going to add so much to Jessica Drew and she will undoubtedly showcase her versatility as an actress, switching between happy and serious at the drop of a dime whenever the character needs to. During Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Jake Johnson had to go from comedy to serious quickly – something that Spider-Man does often in the comic books. If the sequel is anything like the original, Jessica Drew will be doing the same here. This is something we have seen Rae do on Insecure. She could be crazy and fun one minute, and be dramatic the next.

Jessica isn’t as goofy and quippy as Peter, but she may be in this movie. And Issa Rae will pull this off perfectly.

The sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was announced way back in fall of 2019. The previous film’s cast was already terrific. Adding Issa Rae only helps to elevate it further. Personally, Rae being part of the Into the Spider-Verse sequel makes this writer happy and even more excited for the film.
