Wolverine is coming to the MCU but this image of Daniel Radcliffe sharpening his claws has fans talking about him all over again.
MCU fans are ready for the X-Men to make their long-awaited return to the silver screen. No, they are more than ready. Heck, even She-Hulk wants it at this point! The mighty team of mutants are expected to make their long-awaited presence felt on the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the near-future. It’s a bold assumption to make, but with Marvel Studios regaining the movie rights to the characters a number of years ago, the heroes may show up in the MCU in a project that may already be on the horizon.
Recent MCU projects have suggested they will make their presence known at some point, with She-Hulk: Attorney At Law referencing Wolverine and the X-Men and Ms. Marvel and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever making the first references to mutants in the MCU. Oh yeah, and Hugh Jackman is set to return as his version of Wolverine in Deadpool 3. Whether or not that’s just for one movie remains to be seen.
Logan has been a very popular character in the Marvel Comics universe for decades now, but Jackman’s iconic portrayal of the character in Fox’s X-Men movie franchise made him even more of a household name. With that in mind, fans are interested to see how the MCU adapts Wolverine because there really is no question that Jackman is a hard act to follow… if they plan on doing that.
Among the names fans have discussed as potential actors that could bring Wolverine to life is Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe. With that in mind, we’re looking back at an amazing image to get a bit of an idea of what he could look like in the role.
What Daniel Radcliffe might look like as Wolverine in the MCU
Digital artist Bosslogic shared a stunning piece of artwork that features Daniel Radcliffe in the role of Wolverine/Logan. See it below.
Unveiling the image back in 2019, BossLogic’s awesome work showcases Radcliffe sporting a look not too dissimilar to Jackman’s, brandishing the iconic Wolverine claws as he firmly glares at everyone admiring the artwork. He also sports Terminator-like wounds on his face.
Is Daniel Radcliffe playing Wolverine in the MCU?
As of right now, it’s unclear what is happening with Wolverine’s immediate future in the MCU. The character will appear in Deadpool 3 but that will be Hugh Jackman’s version from the Fox X-Men film franchise. However, it could be a different version as Jackman has confirmed that it won’t “screw with the Logan timeline”. This sounds like it could be a one time thing for Jackman, so there is still a strong possibility that Marvel Studios will treat his Logan like a variant from the Fox universe (just as we saw them do with Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness).
In fact, this is something Jackman himself alluded to in a recent interview, revealing that his return as the character in Deadpool 3 “will even be a dual role”. So it sounds like it could be a variant of the character, which would very much be at home in the MCU’s current Multiverse Saga.
As for non-variant Wolverines, Marvel Studios has yet to cast anyone in the role. So, while Daniel Radcliffe may just be a dream possibility right now, there is always still a chance he could sharpen his claws for us in a future Marvel movie. He didn’t end up playing a variant of the character in Doctor Strange 2 like some rumors suggested, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see him show up in the shared universe at some point. Whether that would be as a variant or the main version, that remains to be seen. If it does happen, it would definitely be a nice nod to the fans who imagined him in the role.
Radcliffe knows his way around major franchises and long-term storytelling. He did portray the titular wizard in the legendary Harry Potter film series, so it goes without saying it would be great to see him return to the franchise world and bring Wolverine to life in the MCU.
