8. She-Hulk betrays the Avengers

Comic book: Immortal Hulk No. 47

It was the Immortal Hulk and Harpy (Better Banner) vs the Avengers. You’d think that being outnumbered by Earth’s Mightiest Heroes would be a major disadvantage (the gamma-powered monsters were outnumbered 7-2). Then, Gamma Flight showed up to help. Still,  the Avengers are among the greats.

Eventually, the numbers game and experience started to kick in and The Avengers were about to take control of the situation. They would have won if one of their own hadn’t helped their opponents. She-Hulk broke ranks and saved her cousin and his wife.

Why is this important?

She-Hulk didn’t just turn on her teammates. She betrayed her friends. The Avengers have always felt weird about having a Hulk on their team. They’re too unpredictable. Bruce and Jennifer have Hulked out out at inopportune times. In this case, however, her betrayal makes sense. Bruce is like a brother to Jennifer. Why wouldn’t she help him?

The main concern is what the Avengers will do next. If they let her back on the team, there will be trust issues. When your job is literally life and death, you have to trust the person next to you. And what about She-Hulk and Thor? If they are still dating, that relationship may be over.

Also, there’s an upcoming event called World War She-Hulk in Avengers No. 46. This could be what started this.
