The latest trailer for Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has some surprising cameos and now we have confirmation on the characters involved.

With the newest trailer for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings recently being released, fans have been speculating about some of the major moments throughout the new footage. The most surprising moment comes at the end of the trailer, which showcases Simu Liu’s character witnessing a cage fight between a green monster and a sorcerer.

Fans have been speculating since the trailer’s release whether the two combatants in the fight are, in fact. Tim Roth’s Abomination (who has not appeared since 2008’s The Incredible Hulk) and Wong, who is portrayed by Benedict Wong in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There was a lot of evidence to support both theories, with the trailer captions claiming the monster to be Abomination and an image released during the filming of Shang-Chi revealing that Benedict Wong was in Sydney at the time with Simu Liu.

Wong and the Abomination’s returns confirmed in Shang-Chi

However, while the theories have seemed solid, nothing had been confirmed until Kevin Feige sat down with Rotten Tomatoes to discuss the upcoming film. During this conversation, Feige confirmed that the two characters fighting in the trailer were definitely Abomination and Wong, which is bound to make MCU fans very excited. He revealed:

"“Some fans said, ‘This looks like a character they hadn’t seen in many years named The Abomination, fighting a character that looks like Wong. And I can say that the reason it looks like that is because that is Abomination fighting Wong.”"

Feige went on to comment about how great it was to bring Abomination (who is also set to appear in She-Hulk) back into the fold, stating that it’s “a fun thing to have a character that we haven’t had on screen in over a decade show up again in the MCU” and “to see fans on that little tag of the trailer recognize that and embrace that is great fun.”

More from Marvel Cinematic Universe

Tim Roth’s Abomination last appeared in The Incredible Hulk, where he was bested by the Jade Giant. He has not been seen or heard of since, however, he will return in Disney+’s She-Hulk series alongside Tatiana Maslany’s Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk and Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/Hulk. Meanwhile, Wong has appeared in Doctor Strange, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame alongside the Sorcerer Supreme himself Stephen Strange. He will next appear alongside Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

For now though, the two MCU favourites will have to worry about each other, as they look to go one-on-one in a cage match, with the reasoning for how both characters ended up there likely to be revealed during the film.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is slated for release in theaters on September 3, 2021. She-Hulk is slated to land on Disney+ in 2022, while Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to release on March 25, 2022.
