HBO Max’s DC-related properties grow with a recently-announced Madame X series.

According to Deadline, True Blood and Hung‘s Angela Robinson has been tapped to work on a new TV series for HBO Max based on Madame Xanadu called Madame X.

Robinson is no stranger to DC Comics, having written four issues of the Web series for DC back in 2009. She most recently signed a deal with Warner Bros. Television Group to produce and develop original programming on all platforms. The New York University graduate also wrote and directed the action-comedy D.E.B.S. which achieved a Black Movie Awards nomination for Outstanding Achievement in Writing.

Who is Madame X in DC Comics?

Created by David Michelinie and Michael William Kaluta and introduced within the comic book Doorway to Nightmare No.1 in 1978, the character known as Nimue Inwudu (also known as Nima) is an immortal mystic with the ability to predict the future of others with the use of tarot cards. She can also levitate objects, teleport, drive away demons and possesses a wide array of other magical abilities.

After her first appearance in The Doorway to Nightmare, she then went on to play supporting roles to iconic DC characters like The Spectre. Eventually, an ongoing series of the same name was published in 2008 and lasted 29 issues. She then made her live-action debut in DC Universe’s short-lived but critically acclaimed Swamp Thing – in which she was played by Jeryl Prescott.
