Muslim hero

There isn’t a lot of Muslim representation in mainstream comics. Some people don’t even know that Monet St. Croix (who debuted in 1994) is Muslim. There’s also Sooraya Qadir who debuted in 2002. Nonetheless, Kamala Khan will be Marvel Studios’ first on-screen Muslim character.

This is a huge deal. Imagine being a young Muslim child and not having a character on your screen who looks like you. Now, here comes Ms. Marvel. You suddenly have someone who represents the same things you do. And this doesn’t just apply to kids. Muslim writers, artists, and other creators may feel seen now.

This is one of the reasons representation in any medium is important. It gives people the confidence to go out and create something of their own. After Kamala Khan’s debut on the Disney Plus show, there’s no reason to think we won’t see greater representation in the future – and not just in Marvel Comics but the mainstream media in general.

Captain Marvel appearance

We know that Kamala Khan will appear in The Marvels – a movie that will also feature Monica Rambeau and Carol Danvers (a.k.a. Captain Marvel). While it’s unlikely that we will see Captain Marvel make a grand appearance in the show during its main storyline, there is always a chance that we can hope to see her in a post-credit scene.

People love Captain Marvel, but they equally love Brie Larson. Her positive attitude towards the role combined with fighting for more inclusion and representation on the screen has made her a hero to many. Unfortunately, she’s busy filming The Marvels. The good news, however, is that she could film a mid or end credit scene while on set, especially since Iman Vellani is involved in that movie as well.

There is no certainty that it’s going to happen but it would be great to see her make an appearance.
