Following the Loki season 1 finale, fans have been anxiously awaiting news from Marvel Studios regarding the plans for its next Disney Plus original series with a particular focus on the timing for Ms. Marvel and Hawkeye season 1.

While Marvel had hinted at plans to release both titles sometime in 2021, there has been no word on when exactly the series would be released with the only known project on the books being the first season of the MCU animated series What If.

That all changed on July 29, when Marvel announced the official release date for Hawkeye‘s debut season with news that has been met with much controversy from fans.

Hawkeye season 1 release date

As confirmed by Marvel Studios, Hawkeye season 1 will release on Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021, just before the Thanksgiving holiday.

While the timing should help to give the show a nice boost both upon its launch and over the Thanksgiving holiday when many enjoy time off from work, the decision to schedule the show for Wednesday is something that is not sitting well with many Marvel fans.

While Wednesday worked well for Loki, many fans expressed displeasure in the Wednesday release timeline in expressing a preference for Friday releases instead. The hope was Disney+ would perhaps return to Fridays with some of their upcoming titles, it seems we’ll once again be left with the middle of the week releases.

Also not sitting well with fans is what the late November release date could mean for the release plans for Ms. Marvel. While it’s possible the series could arrive before Hawkeye drops, there seems to be a lot of concern among fans that the decision to drop Hawkeye in November could result in Ms. Marvel being delayed until 2022.

While Marvel has promised Ms. Marvel would be coming in 2021, the fact that the studio has yet to release more than one series at once is definitely causing concern among fans.

Why is Disney Plus airing Hawkeye on Wednesdays?

The decision to drop new episodes of Hawkeye on Wednesday mornings seems to be the direct result of the record-breaking performance of Loki. Following the success of Loki‘s Wednesday release schedule, Disney has moved many of its original programs from Friday to Wednesday in looking to replicate the positive reception seen with Loki‘s first season.

Will Disney Plus go back to Friday releases for its Marvel shows?

At this time, it’s unclear whether Disney Plus will ever go back to releasing its Marvel shows on Fridays with the streaming powerhouse clearly putting a lot of stock behind the Wednesday release format following the success of Loki‘s launch.

Hawkeye season 1 becomes the second Marvel series to receive a Wednesday launch date, with What If? also set to drop new episodes on Wednesday beginning on Aug. 11.

Should Hawkeye enjoy a strong performance in the Wednesday time slot, it’s possible Disney Plus will stick with the Wednesday releases for its many upcoming MCU set series including Ms. Marvel.
