Titans season 3 found Jason Todd in quite an interesting predicament, one which has many fans wondering if we’ve seen the last of Curran Walter’s Robin.

Over a year and a half after its season 2 finale aired on DC UniverseTitans has finally returned with a fresh season and new home at HBO Max! Before settling into its weekly release structure, the fun kicked off on Aug. 12 with a 3-episode premiere event and let’s just say the writers did not pull any punches!

** Warning Titans season 3 spoilers ahead **

The show wastes no time in diving right into the action with a season premiere that knocked the wind right out of our sails only a few brief moments into the new season.

In the opening moments, we find Jason alone in the Batcave where he’s just managed to track down the location of the Joker following his latest attack. Recognizing how dangerous the Joker is, Bruce tells Jason to stand down due to the fact that he’s still out of town and his plane won’t arrive in time to pursue the lead.

Despite Bruce’s order not to pursue the lead, Jason decides to go rogue and makes his way to the abandoned amusement park near the pier in an attempt to apprehend him alone. Unbeknownst to Jason, he was walking right into the Joker’s trap and the Clown Prince of Crime quickly gets a jump on the inexperienced hero.

The Titans season 3 premiere seems to suggest Jason Todd meets an untimely demise at the hands of the Joker but is Jason really dead?

Is Jason Todd really dead on Titans?

After the Joker gets a jump on Jason, he brutally beats him to death with a crowbar… or at least that’s what we’re led to believe after word spreads that Robin was discovered dead at the amusement park by police, who also apprehended the Joker on the scene.

It isn’t long before the news makes it back to Dick and the Titans and Dick quickly makes his way back to Gotham. Upon arriving, Bruce reveals he’s already buried Jason’s body and had a ceremony before Dick and company arrived to pay their respects… which was honestly the first hint that Jason wasn’t dead after all.

As we find out in the closing moments of episode 2, “Red Hood,” the reports of Jason’s death had been gravely exaggerated as he had not died as the result of his encounter with the Joker in the opening moments of the premiere. While Robin might have died that night, Jason was very much alive and it is revealed he’s taken up a new mantle in adopting the identity of Red Hood!

Beyond the reveal that Jason is not dead and has become Red Hood, little else is known about how exactly Jason survives the attack, why Bruce lied about burying his body, or what led him to become Red Hood. One thing that is certain though, is Jason Todd does not die in the Titans season 3 premiere and will continue to play a key role in season 3.
