There were undoubtedly several memorable personalities from The Suicide Squad film, and each one of them deserves their own spinoff, origin story, and series. However, of all the interesting personas to fill out the DC flick‘s roster, no one deserves all three more than Peacemaker.

John Cena’s Peacemaker does a brilliant job of answering the question, What if Captain America was kind of insane and a bit of a douchebag, but still somehow a fan favorite? The character believes in achieving peace no matter what the cost, even if it means killing everyone, including the innocent in the way, to get it.

The Suicide Squad director wrote the series in eight weeks during quarantine as a fun project, but HBO Max saw fit to turn his idea into a series. Cena would reprise his role from the DCEU film, and given what went down in the movie, especially the post-credit scene, it’s safe to say fans are eager to see what happens next for the man wearing a shining beacon of hope on his head while slaughtering anyone, good or bad, that threatens to stop him from completing his mission for peace.

After the credits rolled on The Suicide Squad, it’s no surprise the first thought on many people’s minds would have to be when Peacemaker would release. Luckily Gunn announced when the HBO Max series would drop in July 2021 on Twitter.

It looks like fans can start the new year off right. Peacemaker is back in action in January 2022.

Peacemaker cast

James Gunn is known for putting together very talented lineups in his films. Both Guardians of the Galaxy films contain a plethora of big names on the roster, and The Suicide Squad’s cast was full of stellar players, leading many to believe Peacemaker would also do the same.

It turns out they were right. John Cena, Steve Agee, and Jennifer Holland will be reprising their roles from The Suicide Squad, and several exciting stars are also in the mix for the HBO Max series.

Unfortunately, there is no preview for Peacemaker. But because the premiere date isn’t that far off, there is a good chance fans won’t have to wait that long for a teaser.

What is Peacemaker about?

An official synopsis has not been revealed yet for the show, but it’s hard to imagine it will remain a mystery for too much longer. But, after seeing the character in action and knowing what he is all about, it’s easy to surmise certain aspects of what the show will offer.

There are a few things that are known about the story for the Peacemaker series. First, Gunn has revealed that it will explore his origins and is set after the events of The Suicide Squad film.

Gunn has also said that the show has a no holds barred feel to it like The Suicide Squad but is more grounded, focusing a bit more on society than what was featured in the motion picture. In addition, Peacemaker will also expand on the character’s relationship with his father, played by Terminator 2: Judgment Day’s Robert Patrick.
