What If…? showed us that Marvel Studios should be giving us more Captain Carter on Disney Plus.

The Marvel Studios series What If…?  has already turned heads. Episode 1 of the new Disney Plus show gave us the debut of a different Super Soldier. Instead of Steve Rogers becoming Captain America, Peggy Carter became Captain Carter. This wasn’t just a change in name. They were two completely different people and heroes. While Steve Rogers wasn’t a fighter, Peggy had to fight. Not only physically. She had to fight systems that told her that she couldn’t do the job a man does. She quickly showed them how wrong they all were.

Just like Steve, Peggy ended up sacrificing herself to save the world. Instead of being frozen in ice, however, she ventured into a portal as she fought a creature with tentacles. The end of the episode then fast-forwards to the present to show us that Captain Carter eventually returned and was greeted by Nick Fury and Clint Barton. However, she returns to a world unlike the one she left and one that is very different from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With that said, we need to know what happens next.

Why we deserve more Captain Carter

Peggy Carter is already an incredible character. Adding the Captain Carter mantle enhances everything that we loved about her and allows her to go on even more adventures. Why wouldn’t we want to see more of her? She was someone who left the world and made it a better place. It would be interesting to see how she continues her life in the modern day.

She may adjust quicker and easier than Steve Rogers did in the MCU. We’ve already seen that she was calmer about being 60 plus years into the future than Steve was. Although, the situation was different. Nick Fury tried to trick Steve. Maybe he would have been calmer if they tried to ease him into things.

And what about the Avengers? With everything that happened, would they still exist in this timeline? Everything that happened after Captain Carter disappeared set a different timeline in motion. Certain villains may have popped up earlier, later or even became heroes. We also have to think about how saving Bucky Barnes from becoming the Winter Soldier affected the timeline as well.

There are a plethora of opportunities for Marvel Studios to continue this timeline’s story. Captain Carter is coming to an entirely different world like Steve Rogers did. However, we don’t know what things have changed. In a previous article, this writer wrote that Tony Stark’s life may have changed since his father kind of created the Iron Man armor first. And, Steve may have continued being Hydra Stomper until he retired. All of this definitely made the world different from the one we saw in the live-action movies.

The future of Marvel viewing

Marvel Studios seems to be going all in on a future on Disney Plus, so don’t be surprised if they begin experimenting with projects that aren’t directly tied to the MCU. What If…? is a perfect example of this. While it does use the MCU as a foundation to tell its own stories, it likely won’t affect the live-action stories unless the multiversal damages teased in Loki are what ultimately creates these new timelines. That means we could be seeing animated shows that are set in their own standalone universes or branch off into other realities. And, if the actors are up to it, they can continue to voice their characters for years.

If Marvel is going to experiment with animated features, Captain Carter should be the first project. Peggy was a fan-favorite before What If…? premiered and it goes without saying that they would love to see Agent Carter receive some well-deserved spotlight in her own animated series. And yes, it should be made as soon as possible.

Get Hayley Atwell involved ASAP and show us a new Marvel Comics world with Captain Carter at the front of it.

What If…? releases new episodes on Disney+ each Wednesday at 12:01 a.m. PT and 3:01 a.m. ET.
