The long in-development Spawn movie reboot has taken another step closer to production.

It seems like the “King of Rat City” will be receiving another rewrite. That’s right, as revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Brian Tucker will be penning Todd McFarlane’s long-awaited Spawn reboot.

Tucker previously wrote the Mark Wahlberg and Russell Crowe headlining crime-thriller, Broken City, back in 2013 and he also writing the remake of The Fugitive.

Is Spawn finally coming to the screen?

This, so far, is the first major piece of news we have heard from the Spawn reboot in quite some time as, prior to, there was essentially just radio silence. The question is: Will it move past the scripting stage this time?

Another rewrite of the screenplay was expected as in an interview with Forbes last year, McFarlane acknowledged the fact that he is a “first time writer, first time director” in the film industry but knew the risks it would entail when it came to luring producers and studio executives to the project. McFarlane said at the time:

"“If I’d done my job and written a screenplay that mattered, that would have sold it. I’m culpable on that end to start with.”“That’s why I went to get Jason Blum to produce, and attached Jamie [Foxx] and Jeremy [Renner] – to add the quality to it.”"

Although a potential reboot of Spawn has been in early development for over a decade, the wheels weren’t really set in any kind of motion until 2017. Both Jamie Foxx and Jeremy Renner were attached to the production as Al Simmons/Spawn and Twitch Williams respectively. Whether or not those actors are still on board is somewhat unclear, but this will undoubtedly become clearer whenever this new draft is completed.

The Spawn movie will see McFarlane direct while also produce with Jason Blum of Blumhouse Productions. Carla Hacken is credited as executive producer. There is no target release date at this time.
