Poison Ivy to unexpectedly bring down Gotham City in new Batman installment

With so many villains to juggle already, an angry Poison Ivy may be Batman’s biggest threat.

Simon Saint’s time working with Jonathan Crane, a.k.a. the Scarecrow, in Batman: Fear State on the Fear State project itself has proven to be a colossal failure. Peacekeeper 01 lost his mind after Scarecrow got a hold of him and Saint sent his Peacekeeper after him in hopes of bringing him in. He failed and Peacekeeper X was killed despite having superior tech, back up, and his mind intact.

All of this and Saint is also responsible for getting Scarecrow out of Arkham, causing dozens of deaths and injuries during A-Day while funding and losing control of the Fear State Project. Now that his plans have been ruined, Saint says Gotham should be wiped from the face of the Earth.

In a moment of pure serendipity, one of Saint’s workers told him about Poison Ivy – who has a firm grasp on Gotham. Ivy has stated that, if she’s not left alone, she will destroy Gotham. And that’s exactly what Saint wants happen, so he concludes that it’s time to poke the metaphorical green bear.

Scarecrow has the Mind Machine

At the end of Batman No. 114, Miracle Molly told Batman that she knows what Scarecrow is going to do next. She could see everything going on with him and knew his next step was to use the Mind Machine. That very machine was used to take away people’s fears and traumas. What people didn’t know is that the machine doesn’t erase the memories; it stores them.

Scarecrow takes the machine and hooks it up to Peacekeeper 01, claiming that this is how he’s going to save Gotham. He’s going to channel all of the fear and trauma through Peacekeeper 01.

This writer is of two minds with this. On one hand, how could this work? Peacekeeper 01 is losing his mind, traumatized, and he wants to add more pressure in his already fragile state. However, it could actually work out in the end. Obviously, this is going to be bad for Peacekeeper 01 because his mind will be destroyed after this. But in the long run, Scarecrow’s Fear State Project could actually work out for the villain and this could be something that leads to him doing this in other states. Heck, maybe even other countries. This may lead to Scarecrow becoming more than just a Batman villain.

What does this mean for Batman?

Batman has his hands full. He’s lucky that he has Miracle Molly with him. Without her, he wouldn’t know what Scarecrow’s plan was. Now, the pair can try and do something to stop Scarecrow before things get even worse.

With Simon Saint, Batman will be too late to do anything. Saint’s goons are already in Poison Ivy’s lair and ready to attack. Without Ivy’s more empathic side, she’s going to take out Saint’s goons and probably try to destroy Gotham.
