Will Calista Flockhart return as Cat Grant in the Supergirl series finale?

“Good evening, National City. It’s Cat Grant. Yes, I’ve been away for a while but I’m back.”

Those are the words that Supergirl fans have been longing to hear for many, many years. But will they hear them in the show’s upcoming sixth and final season finale?

Cat Grant was a mainstay of Supergirl‘s first season. Portrayed by Calista Flockhart, she is the legend behind the media empire known as CatCo Media Worldwide and she is also Kara’s former boss. Initially a frosty character, she played a part in the Girl of Steel’s development over the course of the first season, championing her in her own way and ultimately becoming very good friends with her.

Cat left early on in the second season when the show moved from CBS to The CW (and by extension, production shifted from Los Angeles to Vancouver) as Calista Flockhart understandably didn’t want to leave her family in LA. She returned at the end of the season before making a cameo in the season 3 premiere. But will she be back for season 6’s last hurrah?

Is Calista Flockhart in the Supergirl season 6 finale?

As of right now, it’s looking like Calista Flockhart will not be reprising her role in Supergirl‘s series finale. The Ally McBeal star was not spotted on set at any time throughout production of the sixth season and the show introduced a younger Cat Grant (played by Eliza Helm) in a special two-part flashback episode earlier this season to pay tribute to the character.

That being said, it wouldn’t be totally out of the ordinary if the TV veteran made an appearance via some kind of video message or press conference that Flockhart filmed locally (like Cat’s press conference in the season 3 premiere).

It’s unlikely, but it would have been a nice way to pay tribute to Cat Grant in the show’s final episode given that she was such a big part of the show.

What happened to Cat Grant on Supergirl?

Cat Grant left National City in Supergirl season 2 to find herself again. She did that, disconnecting from the world for the whole season before returning to help rally her beloved city against the Daxamites. She then became the Press Secretary for President Olivia Marsdin (Lynda Carter).

However, after Marsdin’s removal from office, it was never revealed what became of her. We know that she survived Crisis On Infinite Earths and has been in touch with Kara since, but we don’t know what she has been up to in her time away from National City.

Here’s hoping we find out in the series finale.
