Here’s how Marvel’s Agatha: House of Harkness can be as successful as it should be.

Agatha Harkness was one of the biggest triumphs for the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2021. Marvel Comics fans knew that something was up with nosy neighbor Agnes in WandaVision, so finding out that she was the main villain wasn’t too shocking. Nonetheless, she was still amazing, with Kathryn Hahn turning in a brilliant performance from start to finish. She went from being a quirky next door neighbor, to being an all-powerful witch smoothly. Because of this, it made sense that she was given her own project.

Kathryn Hahn has been underrated for years and this role has propelled her to new heights. With this new series, Agatha: House of Harkness, that was confirmed that Disney Plus Day, fans will see her continue to reach even greater heights.

That said, the success of the Disney Plus show will rely on other things outside of her undoubtedly awesome performance. These four things will also determine whether or not Agatha: House of Harkness will be victorious.

Agatha’s backstory in House of Harkness

We saw a small glimpse into Agatha Harkness’ life in WandaVision. She was using dark magic that was “above her age and station” according to the rules of her coven. Because of this, she was punished. Before that could happen, though, Agatha stole the power of the witches trying to kill her. Among the dead was her mother.

That was in 1693. Agatha Harkness had decades of learning since then. What else did she do? How many historical moments was she responsible for? Did she help Red Skull in World War II? Has Agatha had a run in with any of the Eternals? Has she always been evil? Digging into her past will help fans love or hate her. Considering the character, probably both.

Agatha Harkness the Quirky

Before Agatha Harkness was revealed to be all-powerful, she played a different role. She was a fun and silly neighbor Agnes and did it well. Not surprising considering that Kathryn Hahn is known for being entertaining. This part of Agatha shouldn’t be lost entirely in her own series. It’s part of why people fell in love with her in WandaVision, after all.

Now, she shouldn’t be goofy all the time; just enough to keep the show entertaining. With WandaVision’s Jac Schaeffer writing and producing the Agatha: House of Harkness series, we can expect Agatha to be quirky here as well.

Agatha Harkness the Sneaky

Agatha’s plan was close to perfect. She found a way to infiltrate Wanda Maximoff’s world and trick her into almost giving up her power. If she didn’t become arrogant like most villains, she would have succeeded. Whatever she’s up to in this series should be just as insidious.

In some ways, what Wanda did to her was worse than death. She was left with no recollection of who she was. Just like the people in Westview. There’s no doubt Agatha will be out for revenge for that. If this writer had to guess, she could somehow get set free at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness – in an end-credit scene, perhaps?

When Agatha does try again, her new plan will be more devious than her first one.

Agatha Harkness the Powerful

If Agatha was powerful enough to take on Wanda (who put fear into Thanos in Avengers: Endgame), then she’s a top tier witch. When her past is explored, showing her level of magic should be a priority. Marvel Studios has continued to show powerful women in the MCU. Agatha will be the next in the ever growing list.

If not, this will be disappointing. Show us why she’s not to be messed with.

All episodes of WandaVision are available on Disney Plus.
