What could Marvel be teasing with X-Men: Destiny of X?

Since Jonathan Hickman created a new era of X-Men through the likes of House of X and Powers of X, Marvel’s Mightiest Mutants have had multiple internal events.

X of Swords debuted a race of mutants from the Island of Arakko. Then, the Hellfire Gala came and mutants terraformed Mars and claimed it for themselves. That led to the death of the Scarlet Witch and the Trial of Magneto mini-series.

Then there’s Inferno. In issue No. 2 of that series, the mutant precog Destiny returned. And now it seems that more will come from Destiny’s return, as Marvel is teasing a new saga titled Destiny of X. Check out the social media post below:

The announcement said: “Destiny of X. Spring 2022.” It was accompanied by an image of a quote from Irene Adler (the mutant Destiny) saying, “There is no ‘The’ future. There is no Destiny.” A very cryptic quote. However, it should be pointed out that destiny is capitalized. This could mean that when Irene is talking about destiny, she means herself.

What can we expect from X-Men: Destiny of X?

In the second issue of X-Men: Inferno, Destiny took Apocalypse’s place on the Quiet Council. A move that worries Xavier, Magento, and Moira X as Destiny once killed Moira (House of X No. 2) then threatened her to not kill mutants when she was resurrected. If she did, she’d know and have her killed again.

Destiny knows everything that will happen before it does. This means Xavier, Magneto, and Moira’s scheme’s won’t work. The concern here is what Destiny has planned. Not only that, she’s working with Mystique. Are the two of them concocting something or is one trying to trick the other?

As much as Mystique and Destiny love each other, betrayal wouldn’t be shocking. Mystique will do whatever she can to keep Irene alive; things that won’t always make her wife happy. As we saw, Destiny wasn’t pleased with the things Mystique did while she was dead. That will have an effect on their relationship. Could this lead to a betrayal? Destiny loves Raven, but she could be more concerned with mutants prospering. We’ll have to wait and see what happens next.

Destiny of X No. 1 will be released in Spring of 2022.
