Marvel Comics: 6 major moments comic book fans should know about (November)
By Mark Lynch
The God of Hammers
Comic book: Thor No. 19
Thor has been having issues with his hammer since Original Sin. After he became worthy again (War of the Realms), everyone thought those troubles were over. We have since found out that it was only the beginning.
Donny Cates’ run of Thor started with Mjolnir being hard for Thor to lift. However, everyone else could lift it even if they weren’t worthy. One human even gained the power of the God of Thunder. Thor tried resting and even giving Mjolnir to the Avengers. The latter was a mistake. Soon after he left it, Mjolnir was stolen.
In Thor No. 19, The Odinson tells Sif of a prophecy that talks about a storm the likes of which has never been seen being and it that it would be brought on by Mjolnir. At the end of the issue, Odin and Thor go to Nidavellir. When they arrive, they see all of the Dwarves were killed by the God of Hammers – who’s wielding Mjolnir.
Why is this important?
The prophecy of the God of Hammers is just the most recent dark omen in Thor’s life. Thor No. 6 showed Thor’s death by the hands of Thanos with three of the most powerful weapons in the galaxy. Among them was Mjolnir.
Before Thor regains control of Mjonir, is Thanos destined to use it against All Father Thor? Is this just the beginning of Thor’s death? Whatever happens next, Donny Cates continues to keep comic book fans on edge.
