Riverdale season 6: Why Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was cancelled

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina fans are thrilled that Sabrina Spellman is back on Riverdale season 6, but why was the Netflix show cancelled?

Sabrina Spellman is back. Yes, in news that sent fans of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina into a meltdown, it was revealed earlier this year that Kiernan Shipka would be reprising her role from the much-loved Netflix series on Riverdale season 6.

The fellow Archie Comics series is currently in the midst of its five-episode-event. Airing on The CW on Tuesday nights immediately after The Flash (which is also doing a special five-episode-event of its own), it’s set in what appears to be a parallel reality in which the supernatural is possible.

Titled “Rivervale”, the event has pushed the boundaries of what fans can expect (which is really something considering this is Riverdale we’re talking about) and now it will finally introduce Sabrina into the mix, as she shows up to reminisce with her friend Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch).

Fans of the Netflix series are thrilled to see their leading lady back on TV, but it does remind us of the show’s premature conclusion, leaving us all wondering why it was cancelled.

Why was Chilling Adventures of Sabrina cancelled by Netflix?

While the definitive reason for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina‘s unjust cancellation was never revealed by those in charge of the streaming service, the running theory is that the COVID-19 pandemic was the driving force behind Netflix’s decision not to bring it back for a fifth part.

According to actor Ross Lynch (who portrayed Harvey Kinkle on the show) in an interview with NME, there probably would have been around 10 more episodes planned if COVID-19 hadn’t happened, meaning that Part 5 likely would have taken place.

Sadly, that did not happen and fans were heartbroken to hear that the show would not be coming back for another season.

Needless to say, they are all happy to see Kiernan Shipka back on Riverdale season 6.
