Is Charlie Cox in Spider-Man: No Way Home?
Spider-Man: No Way Home is bringing back some familiar Marvel faces in an MCU multiverse meltdown. Will Daredevil’s Charlie Cox bring back Matt Murdock?
It’s official: Charlie Cox’s Daredevil is canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We don’t know when, how, why or if it will even happen in the near future (or if this version of the character will be directly tied to the Netflix series), but Kevin Feige has officially confirmed that if we see the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen pop up in the MCU, Cox will indeed be the actor playing that role.
Cox played the title role in Netflix’s critically-acclaimed Daredevil series that debuted on screen back in 2015 and launched a short-lived shared universe comprising of shows such as Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders. But after its third season, the streaming service decided to end the partnership, cancelling Daredevil and solidifying the end of the Marvel Netflix era.
Since then, fans have been calling for the return of Cox’s vigilante in the MCU – something that became all the more likely when the rights reverted back to Marvel Studios two years after the Netflix deal’s end.
Now that we know it’s happening at some point, we can look forward to his debut, with the most likely place for his return being an upcoming MCU movie.
Is Charlie Cox’s Daredevil in Spider-Man: No Way Home?
Charlie Cox is believed to be part of the Spider-Man: No Way Home cast. In what capacity, it has yet to be revealed, but the rumors of his arrival have been present since he was reportedly filming scenes for the movie last year.
The running theory is that Matt Murdock will be consulted by Peter Parker while seeking legal representation following the revelation that he is Spider-Man. The belief is that Cox won’t actually suit up as Daredevil in the film but that this will be a brief but effective way to introduce him to the MCU, familiarizing him with those who haven’t seen the Netflix series while serving as a major Easter Egg in a movie full of them (and an obvious tease for the character’s future in the MCU).
There have been rumors for some time now that Marvel Studios is busy working on a new Daredevil project set in the MCU that would reunite the cast of the Netflix TV series but in something of a new continuity in order to make it more accessible to those who didn’t see the first three seasons. Whether it will be a movie or a Disney Plus series remains to be seen.
