Daredevil actor Charlie Cox was initially rumored to reprise his role within the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Spider-Man 3 but he has now reportedly completed his scenes.

Recent rumors suggested that Charlie Cox is set to return as Daredevil in the third installment of Spider-Man within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It seems that there may have been some truth to those rumors because a recent report from Comicbook.com reveals that Netflix’s Daredevil star has indeed wrapped filming on Spider-Man 3.

Is Charlie Cox playing the Netflix version of Daredevil in Spider-Man 3?

With all the rumors, it’s hard to be certain of anything these days, but this does suggest that Cox was indeed involved in the Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures production. What is not yet clear is whether he’ll be playing the same version of the Matt Murdock/Daredevil character that we last saw in the Netflix series. However, there might be one clue.

When the reports of Cox’s apparent return for Spider-Man 3 first made their presence felt on the world, they came along with a string of announcements and rumors in regards to casting, all of which suggested familiar Spider-Man actors would be reprising their previous roles from past iterations of the Spider-Man franchise.

This saw the likes of Alfred Molina and Jamie Foxx confirmed to return while former Spidey stars Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire were also seemingly confirmed to return. The latest rumor, however, suggests that Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin and Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman could also be set to join the fray.

If all of those actors end up reprising the same version of their characters, there’s a strong chance Cox could do the same. Moreover, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed in a recent interview that all of the Netflix characters – including Daredevil – are once again eligible for use, therefore every character is well within their reach should they be required to appear in future films or series. With that in mind, it’d be entirely possible that Spider-Man 3 marks the beginning of the Netflix Daredevil’s return.

On the other hand, one insider points out that many of the returning characters and multiple villains could have more than just cameos, suggesting that some of them may be integral to the main plot, and that the reason for the previous actors reprising these roles is simply down to the fact that they are recognizable in the roles. So, yes, Charlie Cox’s Daredevil is arguably the most recognized version of the character, but is that the only reason he’s returning? Or will the Netflix version of Matt Murdock show up because there is more of that story to tell?
