8. Doctor Doom defeated Johnny Storm

Marvel comic book: Fantastic Four No. 34

The one person you don’t mess with is Doctor Doom. Some of the other heroes and villains can show mercy, but Doom does not – especially when he’s embarrassed. Johnny Storm made that mistake. He slept with Doctor’s Doom’s second in command, Lady Victorious, before they got married. At the altar, Lady Victorious confessed what she did in front of everyone in attendance. Doom’s punishment to Johnny was making him unable to turn off his powers.

Doom outdid himself. He trapped Johnny in a form where he can’t have any human contact without hurting them. The irony is that Johnny is in the same position that Ben Grimm has been in for years. All of those jokes about Ben only to be trapped in the same kind of prison.

7. Peter Parker is in a coma

Marvel Comic book: Amazing Spider-Man 7 No. 6

Peter Parker has the worst luck ever. He was still mourning the death of a friend (Amazing Spider-Man No. 74) when Ben Reilly appeared and told him that he had been hired by the Beyond Corporation to be Spider-Man. Not only that, they now owned the Spider-Man copyright. Peter was understandably not happy about this.

Later, during a team-up against the U-Foes with Ben, Peter then got poisoned and rushed to the hospital. As he was lying in bed, he told Ben that he has his approval to be Spider-Man. As soon as Ben left the room, however, Peter went into a coma.

Now, Ben is Spider-Man in more ways than in power and responsibility. He has the guilt of someone close to him being hurt – something that every Spider-Man goes through. Maybe this isn’t a Peter Parker curse and, instead, something everyone with the Spider-Totem goes through.
