2. Connection to Mystique

Mystique is Nightcrawler’s biological mother. The biological part is emphasized because she wasn’t much of a parent. Soon after Kurt was born, she threw him off a cliff. Luckily, his father Azazel teleported and caught him before Kurt landed (Uncanny X-Men No. 428).

Mystique has never been a positive force in Nightcrawler’s life. Despite that, Kurt continues to try and make her happy (see X-Men: Inferno No. 2 for an example of this). Highlighting this could make for a great story in a future Nightcrawler project. We’d get to see Mystique’s beginning, how it affected Kurt’s upbringing, and the conflict he faced trying to do right by her and do what’s right.

1. Friendship with Wolverine

Nightcrawler has had a major influence on Logan’s life. As Wolverine said in Second Coming, Kurt was the only person who looked him in the eyes, spoke to him and treated him like a man. A lot of people saw and still see him as an animal or weapon. Nightcrawler always sees the man. This is one of the reasons why Wolverine tried and became a better man.

Unless mutants already exist in the MCU and haven’t been mentioned, their relationship should grow on-screen as time goes on. It would be nice to see how their rough beginning blossomed into a brotherhood. This writer has no doubt this will happen. When it does, we’ll see why they have the best friendship in comics.
