Mystique’s wife Destiny joins the Quiet Council after a fantastic plan in X-Men: Inferno.

The X-Men are always in danger. If it’s not someone who hates mutants trying to kill them, it’s someone from the inside ruining trying things. Mystique is culpable for the latter.

Raven Darkholme has caused pain and suffering for the X-Men for decades. This time, however, she did it for love… and the fact that she was technically in the right. Raven wanted to bring back her wife Destiny and, despite Magneto and Xavier sabotaging her, she managed to do just that with an awe-inspiring plan.

In X-Men: Inferno No. 1, we saw Magento and Professor Xavier plotting with Moira MacTaggert to erase Destiny’s DNA so she couldn’t be resurrected. Magento took his spare Cerebro helmet and Xavier went to Mr. Sinister to take the last of her DNA. What we didn’t know is that Mystique used her abilities to pose as them without being noticed (even though Sinister recognized Mystique and complimented her plan).

Later, Mystique posed as Xavier again and went to The Five to bring Destiny back. After her body was reborn, she gave Hope Summers’ Cerebro to Destiny to regain her memories (Mystique can’t use the helmet). Now, after all that time, Raven was finally reunited with her wife. An added gift was given to Destiny as well as she was brought back as the same age from when she and Raven first met.

Mystique’s plan continues

While bringing Destiny back was good, Mystique never settles for just “good” when she can have great. Raven wanted Destiny on the Quiet Council of Krakoa. In order for that to happen, a vote had to be made.

Nightcrawler voted yes to make his mother, Mystique, happy. Meanwhile, Xavier, Magneto, and Storm voted no while Kate Pryde refused to vote at all. It then came down to Exodus, Sebastian Shaw, Sinister, and Emma Frost.

Mystique found a way to bribe them all into backing her: Emma got a mysterious item she’d been searching for, Shaw did it because he thought Emma would vote against it (which Emma didn’t), Exodus for the love of Krakoa, and Sinister just voted yes just because he knew the rest would want him to comply.

With that, Destiny officially became the newest member of the Quiet Council.

What this means for X-Men: Trial of Magneto

There’s a reason why the X-Men: The Trial of Magento overlaps with Inferno. In Inferno No. 2, we see that Mystique is the one who stole Magneto’s spare Cerebro. This could confirm that Mystique attempted to kill Wanda – something many had assumed already. More importantly, this could be what Hope Summers found out while she was in Magneto’s mind. She saw that Magneto didn’t have the helmet and knew something was up.

Things are slowly heating up in X-Men: Inferno (pun intended). Stay tuned to see what happens in this series and X-Men: The Trial of Magneto.
