Rent is probably cheap in Gotham

This is easily the best part of living in Gotham City. There’s no way that the rent is expensive. Sure, there are places in Gotham where there is no violent crime. The people who can afford to live there only have to worry about Catwoman stealing their jewellery. It may be a crime, but at least you only get hurt if you try to stop her.

The idea of living with cheap rent could be enough. Depending on what colleges are around, you could live off campus cheaper than on. But, there’s another problem that comes with that. The main reason people would stay away from Gotham City.

Constant threat of death

Batman may do regular patrols at night and the Bat-Family may help, but they can’t be everywhere at once. We’ve seen multiple stories where Gotham has been taken over by a villain. In Arkham Knight and Fear State, Scarecrow did it. The Joker’s recent takeovers were in Joker War and Endgame. We can assume he will do it again in the future. There’s also Riddler’s Zero Year, which is among the worst takeover attempt any super-villain has staged.

With each takeover comes deaths. Sometimes it’s dozens and other times it’s thousands. That doesn’t sound worth the inexpensive living.
