X Lives of Wolverine ends with a major death
By Mark Lynch
Wolverine ends his time-jumping adventure only to have more problems on his hands.
Logan just completed his greatest Marvel adventure in years. He protected Charles Xavier’s ancestors from Arkady Rossovich a.k.a. Omega Red (and, by extension, death) throughout time. This ensured that Krakoa would continue. However, X Lives of Wolverine No. 4 showed Mikhail Rasputin and Omega Red getting to Xavier in the present through Logan.
Jean Grey and Charles Xavier were weakened and Mikhail took advantage of it. The two Omega level telepaths couldn’t find Wolverine’s mind. This allowed Mikhail to get to them. Thankfully, all three heroes fought back and Logan was back in the present.
However, the fight wasn’t over. Logan now knew where Omega Red was and it was time to fight his nemesis one more time.
"“No matter how deep in the wilderness you travel, I hope you never lose your way.” – Charles Xavier’s ancestor"
Back in Russia, Mikhail Rasputin was not happy. Arkady wanted to go back further through time to kill Xavier but he declined. He then called Arkady a failure. When Omega Red reminded him that they were in this together and both failed, Mikhail didn’t take that kindly. Mikhail left Arkady out in the cold, alone, and with the Cerebro Sword. That’s when Wolverine appeared behind Omega Red.
Logan and Arkady have a bloody battle that ends with Wolverine killing Omega Red and taking the sword back to Krakoa. Unfortunately, there was no time for Logan to rest, as Sage tells him that he’s needed to fight himself (see X Deaths of Wolverine No. 4 for more on that.)
"“You can’t change the story that’s started. Only thing you can control is the ending.” – Logan"
X Questions of Wolverine
- What happens to Moira? If she’s dead, does she get a proper burial?
- Did Logan actually prevent his future or is the rise of the robots inevitable?
- What will Mikhail Rasputin try next? He’s clearly not done with Xavier and Krakoa?
- Will Omega Red be resurrected? If so, will he be confined to The Pit?
- Did the Quiet Council know about Jean Grey, Charles Xavier, and Wolverine’s journey? If not, how will they react when they find out?
