The Flash and the 15 best superhero TV shows from the last 15 years
The Boys
Year: 2019 – present
Seasons: 2 (season 3 is happening)
Doing something different is all the rage these days, but perhaps no comic book series is as different as The Boys. The Amazon Prime Video original is as out there as they come, with it consistently pushing (or more like demolishing) boundaries and refusing to do anything that doesn’t make headlines.
Set in a world where superheroes are little more than commodities owned by corporations, a group of vigilantes step up to show the world who the Supes really are. What follows is violent, outrageous and outlandish, and even though that may not be for everyone, there is no denying that The Boys has earned itself a place on countless “Best of” lists since its inception.
Peacemaker
Year: 2022 – present
Seasons: 1 (season 2 is happening)
Perhaps the most unexpected entry on this list, HBO Max’s Peacemaker was a spin-off of The Suicide Squad that focused on the film’s most unlikable character. And yet, the show itself was one of the decade’s most unorthodox gems.
That is in no small part thanks to the genius of James Gunn and the talented ensemble that came to life before us. The biggest star, of course, is John Cena, who turns in a career-defining performance as Christopher Smith in the violent DCEU saga that is as much about family as it is about saving the world.
