Moon Knight spoilers: Does Khonshu die in Moon Knight?

Will Khonshu make it out of Moon Knight alive, or has the moon god already been taken down?

Moon Knight has only been on screens for two weeks and it’s already the biggest TV show of the year. That’s the impact of Marvel Studios, as we all know better than to bet against anything that originates in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And even though the Moon Knight characters had not yet been adapted in the MCU prior to the Disney Plus show, it has successfully given us lovable and compelling versions of them.

One character that has been a constant presence in the show over the course of its first three episodes (without ever getting too involved) is Khonshu. The Egyptian moon god has an arrangement with Marc Spector that sees the former assassin become Khonshu’s avatar and do his bidding, stopping deadly threats and protecting the world no matter how dangerous it is – often resulting in the unassuming Steven Grant ending up in unlikely and precarious predicaments.

However, the third episode of Moon Knight has left Khonshu’s fate up in the air as his fellow gods put an end to his attempt to help Marc Spector stop Ammit once and for all. But is he gone for good?

Is Khonshu dead on Moon Knight?

In an attempt to help Marc find Ammit’s tomb before Arthur Harrow frees her, Khonshu turned the night sky back so that Steven and Layla could decipher the map using the night sky from centuries ago. However, his fellow gods had forbidden him from playing with the sky earlier in the episode, warning him that if he did it again there would be consequences.

Those consequences came whenever the gods united once more and started a ceremony that would imprison the moon god in stone. And that’s exactly what happened, as Khonshu’s powers left him and he disintegrated, leaving Layla and Steven (who had also fallen unconscious) alone in the desert – but not until after he told them to get Marc to free him.

With that in mind, it’s clear that Khonshu is not dead. Yes, he is imprisoned in a statue in a tomb, but that doesn’t mean he’s gone for good. Thus, we should expect Marc and / or Steven and Layla to free him before the end of the series. After all, he is the source of Moon Knight’s power.
