Moon Knight has consistently proven itself a jaw-dropper. The fifth and penultimate episode was no different. But what does it all mean?

Throughout the course of its run thus far, Moon Knight has successfully opened up a whole new aspect of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to viewers. Not only has the Disney Plus series taken the MCU into much darker territory, it has explored elements and mythologies that the Marvel Studios shared universe had yet to dive into, allowing it to thrive as a standalone offering as well.

The show is also pretty shocking, with a number of cliffhangers leaving fans wanting more week in and week out – none more so than the unforgettable debut of Taweret in the fourth episode’s conclusion. And the fifth episode certainly didn’t hold back either, which is to be expected considering we are talking about the show’s penultimate episode here.

Just how did Moon Knight set the stage for its finale? What does it all mean?

Is Steven Grant really dead on Moon Knight?

The penultimate episode of Moon Knight saw Steven Grant frozen in the sand of Duat after he fell into it in an attempt to protect Marc. Though Marc tried desperately to get the ship they were on to turn around, the scales that balance their hearts found just that – balance. It resulted in Marc being transported to the peaceful field Taweret hoped he would, suggesting that he had found paradise.

So, are Steven and Marc really dead? That’s a question that isn’t easy to answer. For now, it looks as if we’re at the end of Steven Grant’s story. The character helped Marc come to terms with his traumatic childhood, and that could be a sign that he was ready to let him go. On the other hand, Steven was really coming into his own as a character and it would be a shame to lose him now.

As far as Marc goes, yes, it seems he has found peace. But let’s not forget that Khonshu still needs him to wield his vengeance and stop Harrow from resurrecting Ammit. For that reason, it’s likely that Marc will find a way back – but will he be able to bring Steven with him?

And what of that mysterious third personality? Will he show up in the finale?
