Moon Knight’s fourth episode concluded on a note that left viewers in shock. Thankfully, we have some answers.

Episode 4 of Moon Knight may have been the Disney Plus show’s most gripping installment yet.

An opening, if you will, to the second half of the season, it picked up in the aftermath of the previous episode as Layla tried to help Marc Spector / Steven Grant after the loss of the power of Khonshu left them, well, powerless.

This opening, as normal as you might expect given the previous episode, paved the way for the most surprising and unusual episode of the series thus far.

“The Tomb” was all about trying to stop Arthur Harrow from finding Ammit’s tomb. However, that eventually led to a fight between Marc and Layla and the former ending up getting shot by Harrow, which prompted an unexpected trip to a psychiatric facility in which Marc came across Steven in physical form. But even that couldn’t prepare viewers for the episode’s conclusion.

Who is the hippo at the end of Moon Knight episode 4?

The conclusion of Moon Knight episode 4 saw Marc Spector and Steven Grant make their way through the psychiatric facility, only to be met in the corridor by a bipedal hippopotamus female. Though the creature politely said “Hi!”, Marc and Steven responded with frightened screams.

But just who is person they have crossed paths with? The answer is Taweret. While the character isn’t a Marvel Comics regular, she is a figure of Egyptian mythology, as she is the protective ancient Egyptian goddess of childbirth and fertility.

She’s also typically depicted as a benevolent character, which definitely lines up with her polite response to Marc and Steven in Moon Knight, so it’s likely that she will be an ally to them going forward.

Either way, we’re excited about Taweret’s arrival on the show and can’t wait to see what she does in the episodes ahead.
