5 huge Marvel, DC and comic book moments fans should know about (April 2022)
By Mark Lynch
These are the best Marvel and DC comic book moments of April 2022.
Normally, these monthly lists of the biggest comic book moments are longer. This month, there were so many comic book moments that they had to be put in single articles.
Nightwing and the Flash took out a first class assassins group. The Hulk has a Hulk in Donny Cates’ newest Hulk comic. That’s on top of week 1 in April being full of incredibly important moments.
And yet, there are still moments that need to be mentioned. Here are the other best moments.
The Joker isn’t dead
Comic book: Future State: Gotham No. 12
In the DC Comics Future State series, readers saw the demolition of Gotham City. Bruce Wayne and Batman were thought to be dead, the Magistrate were the evil tyrants policing the street, and an explosion created a giant crater in the middle of their city.
Throughout all of that, The Joker was assumed to be dead. The fact that he wasn’t terrifying Gotham’s citizens was definitely one positive in this alternate reality. The Next Joker, while bigger and possibly more physically intimidating, wasn’t as scary as the original. Well, even that hope was taken away. The Original Joker wasn’t just alive, he was ready to take the Next Joker under his wing.
Why is this important?
Gotham City has always been a mess of a place. It’s not surprising that it’s worse without Batman or Bruce Wayne. Most of the villains sticking around wasn’t a big deal. None of them were as bad as Joker and the others were locked up. Seeing The Joker back is a big deal. Not just for the citizens of Gotham, but Jason Todd as well.
Jason Todd (now Magistrate Red) has a history with Joker. The Clown Prince of Crime beat Jason with a crowbar and killed him (read Batman: Death in the Family for more on that) and the former Boy Wonder has never gotten over that. Thinking he was rid of him must have been a relief. How Jason reacts to his return will determine his future in the Magistrate and his standing with the remaining members of the Bat-Family.
